Our Programs

A group of SPI students, standing and smiling during a performance

A different kind of camp –
We offer an advanced summer piano program in a unique urban environment.

The Seattle Piano Institute offers an intense set of piano activities and experiences for a select group of students each summer. Enrollment is purposefully kept low, which allows for a high level of individual attention – only 12-14 students are admitted to Session 1 and 10-12 students for Session 2. With guaranteed practice time, frequent lessons and multiple public performances, SPI students are supported in their summer piano goals of learning, refining and preparing repertoire.

The Environment

With downtown Seattle close by, the University of Washington campus offers SPI students both proximity to Seattle’s cultural center as well as a beautiful campus setting.

Community

Audience members at public events include Seattle residents, UW faculty and staff, SPI board members and current and previous UW students. Returning students and audience members meet each other at receptions and master classes, building connections that last beyond piano camp.

What Makes Us Different

All activities are directly related to helping pianists develop their abilities and understanding. Even when practicing, students have assigned rooms for each hour and waste no time looking or waiting for an open room. Taking advantage of the urban setting, we attend Seattle Chamber Music Festival concerts in downtown Seattle with Session 1 students and Session 2 students have campus excursions during the day with Institute staff. Finally, we create an intense schedule that gives students a maximum amount of high-quality experiences in a short amount of time.

Who Should Apply

Advanced piano students looking for a summer piano camp that allows for a high level of individual study and attention as well as time to form new relationships with other students and faculty.

It was an awesome and inspiring experience! I loved making new friends and being able to listen and share our talents with each other.
