With bravery, humility, a sense of humor, and curiosity, we will explore intersections between music and movement. We will begin by waking up our muscles, blood, and breath, shaking out any lethargy or fidgetiness that have accumulated in the body. Embodied explorations and discussion of quality, rhythm, time, space and effort will draw from suggestions and language offered by students and their relationship with these concepts as they appear in music theory and practice, and also from Laban Bartenieff movement fundamentals. The session will conclude with an opportunity for each student to compose a brief dance based on the rhythms, narrative, tone, and quality of a passage of music they are currently working on in their piano studies.
