“Music, Birdsong, and the Limits of the Human”   In this workshop, we will consider a question that inspired writers, musicians, and scientists in many different times and places: Is birdsong music? After considering some of the musical qualities of birdsong and exploring select musical examples, we will will analyze different approaches to answering this question. Our goal will not be to answer the question definitively but rather to discover what these approaches teach us about how we define the limits of our species and how we relate to other species in and through sound and music.
